The Civic Trust Awards is the longest standing architectural & built environment awards scheme in Europe.
Established in 1959, it recognises the very best in architecture, urban design, planning, landscape, public realm and public art.
On the 4 March the Titanic Hotel at Stanley Dock received a commendation award at the 2016 Civic Trust Awards. The judges said, "The conservation of the North Warehouse at Stanley Dock and its conversion into the Titanic Hotel has saved a monumental building at risk, which had been disused and decaying for 30 years.
The scheme has brought new life into the building and into a neglected part of Liverpool's historic docklands. The agreement of conservation principles and a sensitive design approach have ensured that the building has retained its industrial aesthetic and character. Historic materials (bricks, cast iron windows, roof trusses and stone flags) and artefacts (wrought iron screens, shutters and hydraulic equipment) have been retained and conserved wherever possible. This first phase of the larger project for Stanley Dock will be a catalyst for the regeneration of the surrounding area."
